When planning project timelines, always calculate in business days rather than calendar days. A 30-calendar-day deadline contains only about 22 business days. Also remember that Q4 has fewer effective work days due to the Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday cluster. For international projects, account for different holiday calendars in each country.
Business days exclude Saturdays and Sundays. Loop through each day between the start and end dates and count only weekdays (Monday through Friday). You can further refine this by also excluding US federal holidays like New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
It depends on your purpose. If you're counting inclusive days (e.g., rental periods, hotel stays), include the end date by adding 1 to the result. If calculating elapsed time or age, typically the end date is excluded. Our calculator lets you toggle this with a checkbox.
