What is sleep debt and how does it accumulate?
Sleep debt is the cumulative difference between the amount of sleep you need and the amount you actually get. For example, if you need 8 hours per night but only sleep 6, you accumulate 2 hours of sleep debt per night, or 14 hours per week. Sleep debt builds up over time and can lead to impaired cognitive function, weakened immunity, weight gain, and increased risk of chronic diseases.
